Music for Little Mozarts at McLelland Piano is an exciting and unique  piano program designed to introduce students ages 4-6 to the piano, providing a solid foundation for future piano study or other musical activities.  With MFLM, there is an important balance between the discipline necessary for playing the piano and the enjoyment a child gets from the process of music-making.
If your child is between the ages of 4-6, and if you are looking for constructive, enriching experiences in which to channel that boundless curiosity and energy, then your child may be ready to begin piano study.
Children develop musical aptitude through
such activities as singing, movement,
games, writing and ear-training activities
along with the actual piano playing.
Students love working with the large selection of rhythm instruments, drums, and drum machines, felt boards, giant floor staff and keyboard, and more.  The accompaniment CD's for MFLM make home-practicing a delight and students love their home practice sessions!

The weekly private lesson is supplemented with a monthly small-group class. Students, grouped according to age and personality-type, enjoy fun activities such as puppet shows, pin-the-dot on the fermata, grr-animal bean-bag toss, giant keyboard scale-walking and much more!  Students also enjoy performing original compositions in crazy costumes at each year's Spooktacular, and playing such games as Music Bowling, Putt Putt, and Floating Ducks at our annual Keyboard Carnival.

Most importantly, our preschool program focuses on actual piano playing and music-making, providing students early exposure to healthy principles of movement which, once mastered, can prevent injury and technical limitations later in life. Because of the instructor's extensive training with Edna Golandsky in New York City, students will learn the basic principles of the Taubman Approach, enabling pianists and musicians to play effortlessly and without pain or limitation.  These healthy principles, instilled at an early age, will benefit each student throughout his life --- whether applied to playing the piano, violin, French Horn, or even such daily tasks as computer keyboard typing.

Students can enjoy their music-making with our experienced and friendly faculty in a well-equipped studio overlooking Hoover's beautiful Paradise Lake.  The instructor, Amy McLelland, is a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music through MTNA, with over 15 years teaching experience.  Degrees:  Bachelor and Master of Music in Piano Performance.  Ballet and piano major at the North Carolina School of the Arts; Post-Graduate studies of Dalcroze and the Taubman Approach with Edna Golandsky in New York City since 1996; annual attendance at Princeton University, NJ, Golandsky Institute International Summer Piano Festival.

Children have natural musical ability and delight in playing the piano.  The key is to make music a part of their world.  Learning to play piano develops physical coordination, and visual, aural, timing and language skills.

For decades, the common age to begin piano instruction has been around ages 7-8.  However, in recent years, educators have come to realize that the ages 4-6 are optimal years for developing musical abilities.
